Abstract

Objective: to assess the knowledge and perception of non-radiologists physicians in Togo on iodinated contrast media used during radiological examinations.

Materials and methods : descriptive cross-sectional study over the period from February 1 to March 31, 2023 of interest to non-radiologists physicians in Togo. The data was collected electronically using a Google Form.

Results : of the 163 physicians registered, 37.42% were general practitioners, 86.50% had had to do an internship in the radiology department during their training, 29.45% had already done an internship in Europe and 19.02% had already received formal training on iodinated contrast media. The mean knowledge score for all physicians was 24.11±4.82 points, which corresponds to 51.29±10.25% of the maximum theoretical score of 47 points. There was no significant relationship between the score and the physician's experience. There was also no significant relationship between this score and the physician's qualification.

Conclusion : The knowledge of non-radiologists physicians about iodinated contrast media is unsatisfactory, while their perception of these products seems acceptable. There is a real educational need for physicians concerning contrast media.
